This contest was invented by Dr. James Stapleton of Michigan State University in 1986. In recent years, a winning score has typically been 18-20 wins. We (the Statistics Department at KSU) compete annually with the Michigan State department (from which Drs. Boyer and Song received their degrees) for bragging rights.

You can find a complete bracket at a variety of sites in newspapers and online. The tournament runs for three weeks, and concludes with the championship game on Monday, April 2nd.

This is a departmental tradition – you don’t have to know anything about basketball to participate –otherwise Dr. Boyer would never be allowed in.
