Calling all those who took organic chem...
So most of the time in Germany the only thing you can get at the drugstore without a prescription is something made from Kräuter (plural of Kraut - herbal medicines)... even aspirin and such requires doctor permission. However, yesterday Marion and I trotted into the local apothecary and she picked up a bottle of liquid ether for 53 cents. It seems to me the only use I know for ether (besides Marion using it to dry her skin out) is from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... can you buy bottles of ether in the US? If so, what would you do with it?

You can use it to knock out fruit flies. Which is pretty much the same use as in F&LiLV.
And you can use it in phenol extraction of DNA samples. At around the fourth step you add water saturated with ether, then vortex, centrifuge, and remove the upper ether layer. So, if you can also round up some TE-saturated phenol, TE-saturated phenol:chloroform, some ethanol-acetate, a vortexer, and a microcentrifuge you can purify some DNA.
You can get it in the States easily, although in Florida it is illegal to have, purchase, or sell more than 2.5 gallons unless you have a permit (google search).
With my ether I would drug you all and dress you up in pretty little dresses. I will decide if you are worth make-up or not depending on how long I have before it wears off.
